KITA-Asiana Airline to Run Charter Flights to China

    -     To support export activities of SMEs what are restricted due to the spread of COVID-19... will operate 9 chartered flights between Incheon and Chungqing until October  -

The Korea International Trade Association (Chairman: Kim Young-ju) and Asiana Airline will run a charter flight to Chongqing in China on September 4th to support small and medium-sized businesses' export activities.

Vice Chairman Han Jin hyun of the Korea International Trade Association (Chairman: Kim Young-ju) and Passenger Flight Director Kim Young-heon of Asiana Airline signed a Memorendum of Understanding (MOU) on September 3rd at COEX in Samseong-dong and agreed to operate a chartered flight once a week until October. The chartered flight will be bound for Chungqing, one of the four direct-controlled municipalities in Chinaa as well as a central city of the western China development.

On September 4th, the first flight will depart for Chungqing carrying 120 Korean small and medium-sized business people. Entrepreneurs entering the country with charter flights will be quarantined for 14 days upon their arrival in China. Afterwards, they will be able to carry out business activities such as visiting local manufacturing plants and having business meetings in various parts of China.

Upon this agreement, Asiana Airlines has decided to prioritize some of the seats on regular routes to small and medium-sized companies, including members of the Korea International Trade Association, in addition to charter flights. This cooperation is expected to relieve some of the demand for overseas business trips from small and medium-sized businesses as the number of regular flights to China has drastically decreased due to the spread of COVID-19, and the price of airline tickets has soared three or four times, and even that is difficult to obtain. The number of regular flights between Korea and China, which operated 1,260 times a week last year, has sharply declined  to 46 times a week as of September.

Vice Chairman Han Jin-hyun Han said, “This is the first agreement for export promotion organization and airlines to cooperate to resume international flight operations for small and medium-sized companies,” and stressed, “The Korea International Trade Association will continue to exert efforts to support safe export activities for small and medium-sized businesses in need of overseas business trips.”

In the midst of coronavirus pandemic, the Korea International Trade Association operated special charter flights to Guangzhou and Dongguan cities in Guangdong Province, China in July and August for small and medium-sized enterprises whose exports were restricted, and opened the “Immigration Clearance Support Center for Corporate Representatives” in COEX in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on August 13th.
